Wifi for all !

Millions of people in india have still not used wikipedia or twitter or facebook or even google for that matter. And still these sites complain of an overload , some even say their total registered users has overtaken populations of a  few countries. I know it's difficult to digest but what will happen when more than half of india's population hits the "Internet", traffic will multiply manifolds leading to severe bandwith choking which , in turn might cause all popular social networks to crash with rail , airline , bus reservation systems in the pipeline.

Enough of bad news , now the real good news . The above mentioned effects can be turned into business oppurtunities provided we invest in hardware, networks , workstations , towers and so on. Each of the market leaders in these segments can have the cake and eat it too ! wishful thinking

When it comes to routers both wired and wireless , i have  a proposal : In india , lot of people now have DTH subscriptions, that is they have Dish antennas. Therefore ISP cum Cable TV providers like Airtel and Reliance can bundle broadband connections with TV subscriptions. As people would not have to buy new hardware. The only problem would be that of monthly subscriptions. Again as DTH pricing war has begun , i dont see why more providers would n't want to join the bandwagon.

Next is the population without DTH or people in villages and small towns where community resource sharing is common , here we can install WiMax equipment over normal telephone or power towers. So people in a certain radius can be covered.

So welcome to the new Telecom revolution , where everyone is a winner. Who knows the next best social networks might come from the remotest towns ! What we need is little imagination and lot of initiative from the bigwigs of the Telecom industry. As of now fingers !
